Word	Definition
abstract	art that does not look real, simplified, from the imagination
balance	equal in weight or feeling
characteristics	something that makes a person or thing different from others
collage	Art that involves gluing paper to paper
geometric shape	shapes that have a name. Mainly straight edges
horizon line	a line that separates the sky from the land
imagination	using your mind to create something not real
Intersecting	to cut or divide by passing through or across.
landscape	a picture of land or the outdoors
Line	a long thin mark
Negative Space	empty space in an artwork
observation	notice or see something
organic shape	shapes that do not have names. Blob-like shapes
pattern	something that repeats.
realistic	art that looks real
Shape	The form that is created when a line comes together
Primary Colors	Colors that cannot be mixed to make: Red, Yellow and Blue
Secondary Colors	Colors that are created when a primary color is mixed with a primary color: Green, Purple and Orange
Warm Colors	Colors that remind you of warm things: Red, orange and Yellow (sun, fire...)
Cool Colors	Colors that remind you of cool things: Blue, Green and Purple (grass, ice, grapes...)
Multi-Media	Using 2 or more art materials in one project
Media/ Medium	What you use to create a work of art. AKA: Art supplies
Symmetry	The same on one side as it is on the other.
Vertical	Up and down. Perpendicular to the horizon line.
Horizontal	Side to side. Level with the horizon line.
Background	The part of the scene that is farthest from the viewer.
Foreground	The part of the scene that is nearest ti the viewer.
Middle ground	The part of the scene between the background the the foreground.
