We moved from lines to shapes and shapes to patterns! Our objective with each unit is to be able to see lines/shapes and now patterns in our environment. We use many different materials to complete these projects.
Here are some examples of what students are creating:
November 4-22:
We have been creating shape collages recently. Wassily Kandinsky has been the artist of study with his circle paintings.
Kindergartners cut and glued layers of shapes. We are working on our scissor skills along with gluing around the edges and a little in the middle.
Weeks of October 23-28:
We are continuing creating shapes. We have made shape collages by drawing shapes and gluing them onto construction paper. We have worked on our cutting skills by cutting shapes. If your student cuts at home remind them that the thumb goes in the little hole, as many fingers as possible in the big hole, thumb up, elbow by our side and scissors aim away from them. Their hand should be in the same position as when they stick their hand out to shake hands with someone. Last week we created pumpkins and this week we are taking our shape cutting skills and our imaginations to the next level and creating shape monsters. They are so cute! I am reading a book this week online from We Give Books called Many Marvelous Monsters By Ed Heck. We Give Books is a new digital initiative that enables anyone with access to the Internet to put books in the hands of children who don't have them, simply by reading online. There are many different books that you can choose from and they are all free!!!
Week of October 7:
We are learning that by bringing lines back together it creates shapes. This week we are learning to draw and color them. Next week, we will cut and glue shapes.
Week of September 31:
From lines we can create anything. This week we took an adventure like Harold and the Purple Crayon.
Week of September 23:
Again, we are working with lines. I read The Floor is Not a Closet by Bonnie L. Grooters.
Week of September 16:
This week we are working with lines again. We created line crowns and watched about lines in Harold's Fairy Tale.
Week of September 9:
Kinders and Young Kinders are learning about lines. They have read Andrew Drew and Drew by Barney Saltzberg and have learned that drawings start with lines. They drew straight, dashed, dotted, wavy, zig zag, loop de loop, curvy and diagonal lines. They also began using scissors and cut on the same types of lines.
